PROS:
1)great for micro dirt/stain removal off carpets.
2)Easy assembly
3)Good build quality
CONS:
1)IMPORTANT: This is not the proper vacuum for lifting solid dirt and hair etc.You will need to use another one first(eg:upright vacuum), then follow up with this for deeper cleaning only.It will pick up some fiber and firt form the carpets though.
2) You will see 90% of all the lint and fiber rolled up and pushed from the carpet. Very very little will be sucked up. Again you will need another additional vacuum for that.
3) So finally, where is all the dirty water stored? There is no proper storage, all the gunk and dirty water surrounds the clean water bladder.Although it does not leak like other vacuums might, cleaning after use is very messy. You will need more than a few rinses and will MOST LIKELY come in direct contact with the dirt.
Bissell needs to really focus on the "easy storage od dirt and removal part" and making it a proper vacuum as well instead of just a carpet cleaner. I'm pretty sure that would make it the best in the market as they already have an excellent build quality, reliability, availability of parts and reputation.
The same as the other one-star reviewers. It works at first which is the reason for the good reviews (one good review is probably by me), but the machine falls completely apart after a few uses. The machine stops sucking up the water and so, if you do not immediately get some other machine or carpet company to suck it up - guess what ..... your carpets get ruined!!!!! So you start out the week just planning to clean carpets and by the end of the week you are in the carpet store writing a big fat check to pay for your mistake of cleaning carpet with a bissel,
This is a great machine but it does require work - no kidding. If your looking for a machine that is no work you might as well hire a professional but I can tell you your rugs will not look as good. I've tried them all - I've rented rug doctors, had a professional and finally bought my own machine. My 16 year old carpets look as good as new right now. I was stuck between the Bissell and Hoover but when I looked at the brushes on the Hoover (which is a spin brush design) and saw they were very soft I didn't think they would clean well and decided to go with the Bissell. I found a reconditioned model for $149 and so far it works great - the only drawback was I only got one brush attachment and crevice tool but you can order extra tools if you want. My mother owns a Hoover (and I am a Hoover fan but not for this item) and she says her water is always dirty brown but it certainly isn't from the brushes cleaning the carpet (they are way to soft to do much cleaning) it's just from sucking dirt out of the carpet and mixing with the water. Some people complained the Bissell uses too much detergent. I used only the normal traffic setting and didn't use much detergent at all. Some people don't like the fact that the machine mixes the detergent with the water and you don't but this allows for a rinse cycle and I would recommend you use it to get up any excess soap. Very nice feature but naturally it makes the process longer. I shampooed a whole room then went back and did a rinse on the whole room, instead of doing sections at a time. I think that saves a little wear and tear on turning the knob back and forth but that's your choice. You DO have to go over an area several times when sucking the water up - it's not just a one time deal but my carpets were dry by evening. They dried quicker with the Bissell than with the rug doctor or professionals. The machine does have some drippage from underneath which at times did leave a few dirty water spots but once you go over that area to suck up the water they are gone. The bottom gathers a slight foam which is the culprit of the drippage but it's really a minor thing. You do have some fuzz clumps left behing but again, very little and really not an issue at all. The hose and brush attachment (not the turbo attachment - you have to put your own elbow grease into it) on the steps did a fantastic job. In reality your own elbow grease will clean better than a turbo brush anyway. Cleaning the machine when you're done may take a little more effort but again you have to weigh do you want great looking carpets or less hassle cleaning the machine in the end. Even with a few minor quirks, all in all, this is a great machine, it took me longer than with the rug doctor but my carpets have never looked this good with any other method of cleaning. We were actually contemplating getting new carpets - not now. I highly recommend this machine!
I moved into my home in June of 2007 and never cleaned the rug. I have 3 cats and a 9 year old. I was apprehensive about doing the rug myself but figured..."what could I lose?" so I ordered this product based on the reviews and the price.
Assembly was ridiculously easy. So much so that I thought I must have been doing something wrong! In 5 minutes, I was ready.
I started on the most high traffic area in the house (hallway by the front door and stairs to the bedrooms). There were spots that were literally black and some spots from my older cat getting sick (the dye in the cat foods scare me!). I never thought they'd get clean. I sprayed the Bissell pre-treat and could literally see the carpet getting cleaner.
I washed the carpet alot more than suggested (I didn't care if I got it too wet! I wanted it clean!)but the suction and the heat dry did the job.
After, the carpet was barely damp...but I covered with a sheet so the kid and the cats wouldn't trample. I just took the sheet off now and it is beautiful!!!! That was just the hallway in front of the front door! I can't WAIT to do the whole house!!
It's got tools for crevices (great for cat hair in the corners) and stairs!
I'd recommend the machine AND the Bissell products. Now maybe I can be proud to have some company over!
I purchased this a year ago using my AMEX points and it was the best 35000 points I ever spent. I've used it SEVERAL times and with a couple of small exceptions its a snap to use. The exceptions being cleaning. 90% of this is a piece of cake to clean. The problem comes when you need to clean inside the mouth of the vacuum part. Its very narrow and lint gets caught in there. I can't figure out how to get it apart to clean the lint out. Maybe someone can recommend something.
Other than that its GREAT.
Wait, one more thing. The handheld spinning sucky thing (whatever...) doesn't really work that well at all so we don't even bother with it. Seems like more of a gimmick than anything. The rest of the tools are just fine.
This model has some serious drawbacks. The capacity for clean and dirty water is TINY. I had to stop about every 4 minutes to dump & refill. The detergent container is also very small, especially considering the outrageous uptake rate, even at Light Duty setting. You will spend a fortune on detergent with this machine, which was apparently Bissell's objective when they designed this awful machine. The Dry Aire feature is silly. No way does a little warm air hitting the carpet for a second influence drying time! And the CleanShot squirter is another gimmick to market this as a $300 model. The "TurboBrush" accessory is lousy..it spins veryyy slowwwly..and you have to scrub and suction separately! It took me forever to get a flight of stairs done. This model is a poor value. I'm going to return it and try the Hoover version.
i upgraded my dead version. this one is way better. i love the spot shot. i am impressed with the heat that helps dry the carpet. there are many tools that come with this bad boy i thought id never use. funnt enough ive pulled em out and use them often.
Just love this product. Used it once and everything worked just great. Its easy to handle and and it cleans great. With all the Attachments that come with it,makes it really easy to get your cleaning done with out extra cleaning on your furniture. My carpet looks almost new again.I would Buy this product again.
I have had this product about 2-3 weeks and have already used it on my tile floor and to clean my sofa several times. I am very satisfied, thus far.
I would give this a rating of 10, if they allowed it!! I have owned this machine for a month now and have completely cleaned my entire house: carpets, floors, furniture, and can't say enough great things about it. The heated air feature has to be one of the more outstanding functions - carpets dry in 3-4 hours leaving professional results without having to wait a few days before putting the furniture back. The heater heats both water and the soap and then combines them - excellent feature when we all know that none of us would even wash dishes in cold water - heat just makes it all more effective cleaning. The attachments are easy to use and the machine has enough suction to remove most of the water, leaving only a slightly damp feel to the stairs and furniture. Spot cleaning actually works for a change from other machines with no effort except to point the machine at the spot and push a button! Excellent, effective, innovative toy!!!
